Spain extends Covid rules until next month

SPAIN has extended its Covid entry rules until next month – daunting holiday plans for many.
The country’s authorities are maintaining certain rules for visitors until June 15.

This means Britons will still need to show proof of their Covid vaccination to enter Spain, including on the anniversary bank holidays in early June.
Entry requirements differ depending on whether the country you are traveling from is part of the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA).
However, if arriving from a ‘third country’, which includes the UK, travelers will only be allowed to enter the country if they are in possession of a valid certificate of vaccination or convalescence, or are on the exemption list.
The rules are slightly different for young people between the ages of 12 and 18, who can enter Spain simply by presenting a negative PCR test.

For travelers from the EU or EEA, a vaccination certificate, a certificate of recovery or a negative test result is required between 72 and 48 hours before arrival in Spain.
The extension is believed to have been implemented after Spanish authorities became concerned about infection rates.
Spain has registered 65,897 new Covid cases in the last 7 days, according to the World Health Organization.
For comparison, England registered 76,867 in the same period.
The extension will come as a blow to those hoping to fly to Spain in the next few weeks as Covid certification is causing confusion for some who have been traveling since the pandemic began.
There had been speculation for the past month that Spanish rules, which would have allowed unvaccinated Britons to travel to destinations such as Barcelona or the Costa del Sol with ease, would be lifted.
Last month, Spain’s Health Ministry also announced that it will still be required to wear face masks on planes and other public transport, despite the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) issuing their own rules have loosened.
Brits must also have at least three months left in their passport to enter Spain.
