Speeding Audi R8 driver who hit 141mph on the A27 banned

A SPEEDING rider caught on camera grinning as he hit 141mph was disqualified.

James Linton, 24, was driving an Audi R8 on the A27 in Hangleton when he was spotted by a security camera team operator from the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership on April 7.

He was seen undertaking a vehicle at 86 mph as he approached an exit for Devil’s Dyke on the eastbound carriageway at 6:45 p.m.

Two minutes later, he was seen traveling in the opposite direction on the westbound lane, where an officer measured his speed at 141 mph.

Officers from Sussex Police’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) located Linton the next day as he was driving in Warren Road, Worthing, and he was arrested.

In custody, it is revealed he had previously been given a Section 59 warning that his vehicle could be impounded after driving anti-socially on the same day he bought the black Audi for nearly £90,000 on March 7 .

He admitted he was the driver at the time of the offences, but said he had no recollection of speeding.

Linton, a self-employed finance broker from Brighton Road, Worthing, has been charged with dangerous driving and speeding twice at 86mph and 141mph on the A27.

The Argos:

He admitted the charges in Worthing Magistrates’ Court on July 11. He received a two-year driver’s license suspension and a 12-week suspended sentence.

The court ordered him to do 300 hours of unpaid labour, complete ten rehab activity (RAR) sessions and pay a £128 victim’s surcharge and £85 in court costs.

He was told he would have to take an extended resit test before he could reapply for his driver’s license.

PC Stephen Watson of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Linton showed total disregard for other motorists when he reached dangerous speeds on the A27.

“Our speed camera showed him smiling inside the vehicle but he wasn’t so cheerful when he was stopped the next day and asked to hand over the keys.

“This case demonstrates our determination to catch motorists who break the law. Linton’s reckless driving has put his own safety and the safety of other road users at risk.” Speeding Audi R8 driver who hit 141mph on the A27 banned
