“That was the challenge with this movie: to bring in all the other characters,” explained Sommers. “We love these characters, and you’d love to see them do all sorts of things, but the question is, what’s the room for? I could see any of these characters that we put in just make a completely different movie alone or in combination in various ways, but in the end, we have to serve the story. about Peter Parker and our Spider-Man, no matter how intriguing it may be. ”
Sommers added, “We had a lot of ideas popping up in the room, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if this guy did that, and these two get together and do it…?’ There are a lot of interesting permutations we are playing in this sandbox. At the end of the day, there’s only so much we can do. We don’t want to do things that might distract from Peter’s story and Spiderman. So once we knew we were going to have Matt Murdock, it was like, ‘He can do this, he can do it, that’s great, isn’t that great?’
It’s not just Matt Murdock that appeals to writers as they play in the Spider-Man sandbox. “We always have to pull back a lot of things to make sure we maintain our focus.”
Murdock isn’t the only character from Daredevil re-emerged in the MCU last month: Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin got more screen time as he was revealed to still be at the top of New York’s top crime scene in Marvel’s Disney+ series, Hawk Eye.
