Sports Direct owner buys former Debenhams flagship store in Dublin

Frasers Group has bought the former Debenhams store on Henry Street in Dublin city centre.

The British retail group owns high-street brands such as Sports Direct and designer fashion retailer Flannels.

The 200,000 square foot outlet is now set to become a Sports Direct flagship store.

The former Debenhams Henry Street store, which first went up for sale in August this year, had a guide price of €55m.

The flagship is spread over four floors and is located across the street from Arnott’s department store. The store is also accessible from the Ilac Center.

Fashion retailer Zara also currently occupies 20,000 square meters of the Henry Street location under a license with the landlord.

The purchase of the flagship marks the latest chapter in Frasers Group’s Irish expansion.

Flannels opened its first Irish store in Blanchardstown earlier this month, while the retailer will also open a new store in Cleary’s Quarter on O’Connell Street next year.

“Dublin is a strategic market for the group and this location will allow us to expand our presence in Ireland as we continue to expand and execute our height strategy,” said sporting managing director Ger Wright. Sports Direct owner buys former Debenhams flagship store in Dublin
