Spotify announced On Thursday, it added the ability to respond to phone calls and other new features to its Car Thing infotainment system. owner of the $90 device that went on sale in Februarycan now queue songs and podcasts, control other media, and use voice commands.
Car Thing users can see incoming calls and accept or reject them directly in the Car Thing user interface. You can also switch between Spotify and other media by tapping Preferences, Language or the screen.
According to Spotify, the new Add to Queue feature is one of the most requested for Car Thing; You can do this either by voice (with the prompt “Hey Spotify”), by touch, or by using the device’s dial. You can also ask Car Thing to create a personalized playlist by telling it what genre or type of music you’d like to listen to.
Designed to be a more convenient way to control Spotify while driving, the Car Thing device uses Bluetooth to connect to your phone and you can either run a cable to connect it to your car or connect your phone via Bluetooth with it connect to your car. It lacks a rechargeable battery, so it must remain plugged into your car’s USB socket.
According to Spotify, the features will roll out automatically for iOS users, and Android availability will roll out “at a later date”.
