‘SRK and giving hits go hand in hand’ – fans react as Shahrukh Khan wins a thriller for PBKS vs LSG in IPL 2023

Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman Shahrukh Khan finally saw his potential as a finisher as he helped his team win another game in IPL 2023 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Faced with just 10 balls, Shahrukh hammered 23 runs including a boundary and two sixes to ensure PBKS crossed the line safely with three balls in excess and two wickets in hand.

There has been much talk of Shahrukh’s failure to repeat his consistent performances for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket in the IPL. However, the faith that Punjab Kings management has placed in him seems to be finally paying off as he has already made some effective cameos this season.

Shahrukh Khan’s innings ensured PBKS won despite losing Sikandar Raza

PBKS only needed 159 to win, but the pitch wasn’t such that batsmen could easily smash through the line. Lucknow struck early with a couple of wickets thanks to debutant Yudhvir Singh Charak’s superb opening spell.

Matthew Short, looking good for his 34, went just before the end of the power play which helped LSG crawl back into the game.

Amid a faltering Punjab chase, Zimbabwe star Sikandar Raza stood up and produced an incredible counterattack. He supported his natural play and scored some crucial boundaries to keep PBKS in pursuit.

As Raza reached his half-century, it seemed an easy hunt for Punjab. However, Ravi Bishnoi improved and produced an incredible 18th over, conceding just three runs and also taking Raza’s wicket.

Shahrukh Khan made his intentions clear by smashing Mark Wood’s delivery straight to the ground to score a six from the very first ball he faced. The Tamil Nadu batsman seemed unperturbed by the pressure from the wickets at the other end and led his side to a fantastic win.

With that win, Punjab jumped two places to fourth place in the 2023 IPL points table, with six points from five games.
