A “predatory abuser” who repeatedly sexually assaulted a girl under the age of 10 has been jailed.
Raymond Haffenden, of Springfield Road in St Leonards, was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Hove Crown Court on Wednesday after being found guilty of four counts of sexual assault.
The 69-year-old was accused of sexually abusing a young girl several times in 2017.
Immediately after the allegations became known, a police investigation was launched and a number of computer devices were confiscated.
Haffenden was arrested and charged with four counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 by touching, three counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration and twice taking an indecent photograph of a child.
On May 5, 2022, he was found guilty of twice sexually assaulting a girl under 13 by touching and twice sexually assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration.
He was sentenced to four years in prison for the two charges of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13, and to 11 and 12 years for each charge of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 – all to be served simultaneously.
Haffenden was told he would serve at least two-thirds of his sentence in prison and was given an indefinite sexual violence restraint order that severely restricted his access to children and electronic devices.
Detective Constable Becca Dixon said: “Raymond Haffenden was a predatory offender who took advantage of his young victim’s trust.
“I want to thank her for the incredible courage she has shown to support this investigation and help get a dangerous person off the streets.”
