St. Pat’s benefits from Russia ban in European competitions

St Patrick’s Athletic have benefited from UEFA’s decision to ban Russian sides from their club competitions next season as they will now play in the second round of the UEFA Conference League.

Last season’s runners-up, Pat’s will enter UEFA competition as the winner of the FAI Cup.

And with the vacancies created by the Russian sides’ ban confirmed by the governing body on Sunday, the Saints can skip the first round of qualifying. The Irish side will also benefit financially, raking in at least €450,000 instead of €250,000.

“Due to the ongoing suspension of Russian clubs from UEFA competitions, the 2022-23 UEFA access list has been updated. As a cup winner, we will now be in the 2nd UEFA club license, of course,” said the Saints.

“The draw is scheduled for mid-June, with the 2nd qualifying round matches scheduled for July 21-28. All dates are subject to change after the draw and are provisional only.” St. Pat’s benefits from Russia ban in European competitions
