Stardew Valley has reached another sales milestone by moving 20 million copies worldwide across all platforms.
The latest figure is as of March 2022, and 13 million of those copies have been sold on PC alone.
Just eight months ago, it was announced that the game had sold 15 million copies, meaning another 5 million copies have been sold since the number was reported in September.
Speaking to PC Gamer, game creator Eric Barone called the 20 million copy milestone “really amazing” and couldn’t believe the game had “reached that level.”
However, the previously announced figure of 15 million could be a bit off, according to Barone.
“The apparent increase in sales was actually because I did a more accurate count this time,” he explained. “The old 15 million figure was an undercount because I didn’t have complete information and wanted to be wrong about being too low. With the full switch to self-publishing this year, I’ve been able to do a more thorough sales count.”
Aside from the count, Barone said that Stardew Valley’s average daily sales are higher today than at any time since launch.
“I’m not exactly sure why that is,” he said. “My hope is that the game will continue to spread through word of mouth, and as more people play it, more people will share the game with their friends. Regardless, I’m very glad Stardew Valley is still popular.”
The next game Barone is Haunted Chocolatier. Not much is currently known about the game other than the fact that it will feature boss fights and explore “awesome possibilities” with experiences that will take you beyond the ordinary. Like Stardew Valley, it will also involve gathering ingredients, but unlike the farming aspect, you’ll be making chocolate and running a shop instead.
The game is still in early development and was only announced for PC, but will also be released for other major platforms.
