Statement from the University of Brighton on a gas leak

A university has provided an update on when its university campus will reopen after a gas leak.

The University of Brighton reported a gas leak on its Falmer campus just after 9am today.

Southern Gas Networks will be “working around the clock” to fix the leaking gas line.

All academic buildings will be closed, student accommodation will remain open.

A university spokesman said: “We regret that this emergency has required the closure of the Falmer campus and that campus-based classes and related activities have to be rearranged for Wednesday.

“We are committed to ensuring that the education of our Falmer-based students is not adversely affected by what has happened and we will be contacting them with further information on online teaching where possible.

“Facilities at our City and Moulsecoomb campuses remain open to all students and staff.”
