Steam Dynamic Cloud Sync will make Deck owners’ lives easier

As part of the ongoing work to support the Steam Deck, Valve has released a new Dynamic Cloud Sync feature for the Steam Cloud.

The free feature will allow users to seamlessly move between the Steam Deck and PC versions of their game without having to worry about leaving the game on the Deck.

Valves said it anticipates users will frequently pause their Deck without exiting the game, which is often the case with other hand-held decks. But with Dynamic Cloud Sync, if the user then chooses to play on another device like a PC or another Stea or Deck, their progress will await them.

This feature will automatically upload all modified saved game data to the cloud before the device goes to sleep. The user can then start up their PC, laptop or other devices to start playing. Steam will also automatically download any save game changes when the user returns to their Steam Deck and wakes the device.

Valve says Dynamic Cloud Sync is not a requirement, but it is recommended. But even without this feature enabled, Steam will still track when game save data is changed on the Deck. However, if the user pauses their Deck while the game is running and then tries to resume it on another device, they will be prompted to close the process running on the Deck or continue without saving. Most recent game progress.

The only thing is that developers have to manually enable it on their games in Steamworks and take advantage of some new APIs. Below you can find the steps to enable it for your game and more details on the included APIs.
