Stephen Merchant Reveals He Almost Broke Bruce Springsteen’s Neck

Stephen Merchant has revealed he once “almost” broke Bruce Springsteen’s neck while watching the US rock legend perform.
he British actor and comedian said he was so eager to help “The Boss” crowd surf the gig that he underestimated the musician’s weight and his own height.
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, he recounted the incident and joked that his obsession with Springsteen, 70, made him seem like a “stalker in a retirement community.”
“I love The Boss and I went down there and during the show … he falls into the crowd, crowd surfing,” he said.
“Love this, I filmed it and thought I’ll go back the second night, I want a piece of that action. I want to be one of those people who get to touch the great man.
“So (next time) I get into position and he comes out and falls into the crowd … I get ready and receive The Boss, but I forget I’m six feet tall.”
He continued: “So he starts walking upstairs and the person behind me is a normal height and can’t reach him.
“There’s a moment when I’m carrying the full weight of Bruce Springsteen and you know what, he’s a small man but he’s a lot heavier than you think.

“He’s full of talent.
“So I hold it like this and I have a vision of my grandmother saying, ‘You should never hold rock stars, you don’t have the upper body strength’.”
Merchant added that Springsteen “sang the whole time” and didn’t realize the incident, with Fallon saying, “You saved his life.”
