Scotland manager Steve Clarke has told Billy Gilmour that he has “everything to offer” at Albion.
The midfielder has been included in Scotland’s squad for the Nations League games against Ukraine (home and away) and Republic of Ireland at Hampden Park today.
Clarke saw the funny side of Gilmour, who left Chelsea and joined the Seagulls just before managerial changes took place at the two clubs.
Graham Potter has now taken the lead at Stamford Bridge.
“He’s not very lucky, Billy, is he?” Clarke said at a press conference to laughter.
But he added: “I think Billy was adamant that he wanted to play more football and he didn’t feel like he was going to get that chance at Chelsea.
“Football can change very quickly, as Billy found out.
“But he has everything to play for at Brighton.
“They will appoint a new manager.
“It will be up to Billy. His performances in training and his performances in games will determine whether he is picked for Brighton.
“It’s up to Billy to do that.
“This time we have him in the squad. We can give him some comfort when he shows up.
“I know Billy well. He’s a good character.
“He is determined to make a great career in football and we know he is one for us.
“We will give him all the support we can.”
