Steve Sidwell summed up the disbelief as Alexis Mac Allister saw his miracle goal ruled out by VAR.
The former Albion midfielder said he couldn’t see how a clear and obvious error was made when the strike was disallowed.
Mac Allister fired an excellent finish into the top corner in the home game against Leicester City.
After a delay of almost five minutes, referee Tony Harrington ruled Enock Mwepu offside.
Unusually for an offside, Harrington was guided to the pitchside screen by video assistant Chris Kavanagh.
Sidwell, co-commentator on BBC 5 Live, said: “What threw me on the replay is we can see Mwepu and an offside line but it’s not clear and obvious where the Leicester City defender is.
“We can see that there is a fine line between the two lines that are emerging.
“But you can’t tell me if that’s the Leicester player’s shoulder or knee or foot.
“We just don’t know.
“It’s not clear and obvious to me.”
Sidwell, who scored Albion’s goal of the season in their 2016-17 promotion campaign, appreciated the quality of the finish.
He added: “It was such a cute strike, it really was.
“It just rocked before he hit it, and as soon as he hit it, it flew.”
