Aston Villa vs Liverpool: pictures

Liverpool fans have accused Steven Gerrard of copying Jurgen Klopp as both managers ran to the tunnel at the break.

The German is known for charging from the sidelines to the dressing room after half-time, but this time he had company.

Gerrard tailed Klopp as he followed the Reds boss with both managers rushing to offer pep talks in the entertaining first 45 minutes at Villa Park at the break.

And Anfield faithful called out their former hero on social media for copying Klopp’s touchline habit.

Klopp certainly had a lot to talk about with his players as the score was even at half-time. Villa fired the blocks as Douglas Luiz opened the scoring for the hosts before Joel Matip neutralized the Brazilian’s header.

It was a poor half from a Liverpool perspective as their title chances threatened to dwindle. Klopp’s side failed to pick up Luiz, who had a clear run to get on his goal, and Alisson couldn’t handle the initial effort before the midfielder brought the rebound home.

Tyrone Mings gifted Liverpool’s equalizer as Virgil van Dijk set up Matip for an easy tap-in, but Alisson almost gave up Liverpool’s lead immediately afterwards. The keeper landed a completely wrong back pass and almost put Ollie Watkins on the plate, but the Villa forward couldn’t surrender when Alisson cleared it.

But whatever Klopp said at half-time seemed to work. Liverpool looked as usual in the second half as Sadio Mane scored a crucial goal to seal a 2-1 victory.
