Steven Gerrard is back in Liverpool wearing red as he prepares for a Legends Game this weekend.

With the international break upon us First League Football comes to a temporary standstill. It’s freed the Aston Villa boss and he’s set to join forces with some old colleagues on Merseyside this weekend. That means Gerrard, who spent his career at Melwood, is now at Kirby in the new Liverpool training ground.

Wearing the club’s colors again, the former skipper said in a video on social media: “Hello Reds, great to be back at the new AXA training ground preparing for tomorrow’s game. I heard it’s a full house which has done everyone good who comes to support us for all the good causes.”

Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia, Dirk Kuyt and Steve McManaman are among the former Liverpool stars set to return to the Reds. Kenny Dalglish will lead the team, joined by Ian Rush and John Barnes.

Barcelona is now managed by Albert Ferrer. He will have 1999 Ballon d’Or winner Rivaldo and Juliano Belletti, the former, at his disposal Chelsea Defender who scored the winning goal in 2006 Champions League Final.

Edmilson, Gaizka Mendieta, Ludovic Guily and Javier Saviola are the available players for the Catalan giants. The facility will help raise funds for a variety of LFC Foundation projects. Matt Parish, Managing Director of the Doundation, said: “We are delighted to welcome everyone back to Anfield for our first charity match in three years.

“The line-up of confirmed Legends is impressive and I’m sure they will put on a fun and competitive game for the Anfield crowd and the fans at home making a huge difference to the work we and our charity partners are doing to help children, young people to support families and communities across Merseyside and beyond.”

Gerrard’s return to Merseyside is nothing new now that he’s back to work in England. Villa lured him from Rangers, where he had won the Scottish title, and he has already led the team at Anfield and Goodison Park. Villa was impressive everton beginning of his tenure.

The 41-year-old then made an excited return to Anfield in December, albeit in the dugout. His side were beaten 1-0, with Mo Salah emerging victorious. Gerrard is slated to be Liverpool’s future boss and an impressive stint at Villa Park could bill him as the man set to replace Jurgen Klopp, whose contract expires in 2024.

The German previously said of Gerrard’s Liverpool takeover: “I think it’s definitely going to happen – and it’s going to be good for everyone. Everything he’s done so far looks good and he’s going in absolutely the right direction. The only problem is when is the right time for it. We saw it with Frank [Lampard] at Chelsea. Stevie is doing really well, but from a manager’s perspective he’s very young.”
