Stop acting like a funeral – Jurgen Klopp refuses to be down

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tried to turn the 1-1 draw with Tottenham upside down, hurting his side’s Premier League title ambitions.

After their first failed home win in the league since October’s game against Brighton, it means the Reds may have returned to the top of the table but are now requiring Manchester City to drop three points in their remaining four games to have a chance at to have the victory.

Son Heung-min’s 20th league goal of the season was canceled out by Luis Diaz’s deflected goal in the 74th minute, but the home side failed to force a win, for only the third time in 2022 in the league.

“First of all, we should stop acting like it’s a funeral. Much worse things happen in my life,” said Klopp.

“It’s an important point because it’s a point more than before the game. It’s massively better from 1-0 down, but it wasn’t exactly what we wanted.

“Now we have to deal with it, but we will, we all know the situation.

“We’re top of the table now. My favorite situation is when we and City lose all our remaining games and we stay at the top, but we all know it won’t be like that.

I would like to sit here and say, “Yes, City will lose points”. We’ll see what happensJürgen Klopp

“I’d like to sit here and say, ‘Yes, City will lose points.’ We’ll see what happens.

“My problem at the moment is not that City are playing Newcastle tomorrow, but that we are playing Aston Villa on Tuesday.

“The only chance we have for things to go our way is to win now.”

That Liverpool managed just three shots on goal from 22 attempts was partly down to Tottenham’s defensive organization and resilience, but Klopp was unimpressed.

“I don’t like this kind of football but that’s my problem, I can’t coach it,” he added.

The draw has also done little for Tottenham’s top-four hopes as they remain a point behind north London rivals Arsenal, who host struggling Leeds on Sunday.

“I think we have to be satisfied, it’s not easy, it’s not easy to play against a great team at this moment,” said Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

“On the other hand, I think maybe we have to be a bit disappointed. I saw a bit of disappointment in my players’ eyes because we had chances to win the game.

“But I asked my players to be good defensively and I think we didn’t concede a lot of chances and we conceded a goal from a deflection.

“We created a lot of scoring chances so I think a draw was fair.”

Antonio Conte’s team meets Arsenal (Peter Byrne/PA) on Thursday.

Tottenham play Arsenal on Thursday and Conte hasn’t given up hope of overtaking them and moving into fourth place.

“There are three games left for us, four for Arsenal and you have to score points in every game,” he added.

“We deserved to stay in this race because in November not many people believed Tottenham could fight to the end for Champions League qualification.

“On Thursday we have an important game, a north London derby against Arsenal, our rivals. We want to finish (places) in the Champions League.” Stop acting like a funeral – Jurgen Klopp refuses to be down
