London Fire Brigade is now prioritizing incidents involving ‘risk to life’ after being bombarded with 550 calls in less than three hours, including some ‘useless calls’

London Fire Brigade announced a major incident for Cyclone Eunice amid a series of 999 calls.
It happened after the roof of the O2 in Greenwich, London, was gusted by strong winds.
London Fire Brigade said the storm had caused ‘chaos’ across the capital.
The service’s control room received 550 calls in less than three hours today, putting firefighters under tremendous pressure.
Crews are now prioritizing incidents with ‘risk to life’.
An LFB spokesman said: “London Fire Brigade announced a major incident in response to a volume of 999 calls made about incidents related to Cyclone Eunice.

“London firefighters and control officers are having a particularly busy day as the storm causes chaos across London, the South East and South West of the county with winds of up to 100 mph recorded. in some areas.
“Containers introduced mass mobilization for certain incidents, meaning calls where there was a risk to life were prioritized and crews would then join other calls. as non-emergency when they can.”
The brigade received a number of ‘unhelpful calls’, including from a Londoner who phoned them through a blowout tent in their neighbour’s garden.
A spokesman added: “The Brigade Control Department received 550 calls between 10.30am and 1300pm – more than the average number normally made in a 24-hour period.

“The high volume of calls also prompted the Brigade to reiterate its advice that people only call 999 if there is an emergency or if there is an immediate danger to life.”
