Straight men, if you want to find love, you have to do better

It seems like being a straight single looking for love is harder than ever. Judging by the endless text messages from my girlfriends in the dating pool trenches, finding a single man who isn’t an asshole is like staying cool during this heat wave: impossible. These friends report being patronized, fetishized, or insulted by potential dates who seem to think this will help them find the girl of their dreams.

It should come as no surprise, then, that a Psychology Today article found that it is a shift toward healthy relationship standards that is currently the biggest hurdle facing straight single men. The article, titled “The Rise of Lonely, Single Men,” was intended to highlight a growing problem — a 2020 study that found that loneliness is greater in men than women, with young men being the most vulnerable to loneliness. But, as one Twitter user pointed out, one of the points in the article is that this loneliness has been exacerbated by decreasing dating opportunities for men as women aspire to those higher standards. Cue up the stack. Straight men, if you want to find love, you have to do better
