One person said on Twitter that it looked “artificially made”, and suggested it could be an artifact of an ancient civilization on the Red Planet or a fragment of a crashed UFO.

Turns out the hot item actually belonged to Nasa.

According to an expert in debunking the UFO hoax, it crashed “intentionally”.

But some have criticized the space agency for littering the planet.

“Haven’t even stepped foot on the planet we’ve already littered with,” said one.

Another pointed out that Mars is a “robot graveyard” as all the old mission gadgets were left behind after many years.

They said: “I mean it’s not like any of the probes and rovers we sent have been brought back.

This piece is called the ‘starter abrasive bit’.

It appears to have been dumped on the ground in July.

But since then, subject appears to have fallen.

“This particular drill was installed prior to start-up, to close the drill and keep the inside protected,” the Perseverance team tweeted earlier.

“To keep my science clean and clear, I put it aside before I start collecting samples with new, pristine drill bits.”
