Netflix has revealed a glimpse of Stranger Things’ explosive fourth season with the release of the first trailer.
The three-minute teaser picks up six months after the Battle of Starcourt as the young cast struggles to return to normal life.
The hit sci-fi drama will make its highly anticipated return to screens in two volumes, the first of which will be released on May 27th before a second series of episodes premieres on July 1st.
The new series sees the friends separated for the first time, and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier.
In the teaser video, Max Mayfield sits at her stepbrother Billy Hargrove’s grave and says to him: “Dear Billy, I don’t know if you can even hear this. Ever since you left it’s been a total disaster.
“For a while we tried to be happy. Normal. But it’s impossible.”
Other popular characters also appear in the clip, including Eleven, Mike Wheeler and Will Byers, who can be seen trying to live their teenage life at school and hanging out at roller discos.
Hawkins’ housemates Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, Nancy Wheeler, Steve Harrison, Jonathan Byers and Joyce Byers also make an appearance during the clip, confirming their return for the next series.
In true Stranger Things fashion, however, all is not well as Jim Hopper is being held in what appears to be a Russian prison camp.
Elf, played by Millie Bobby Brown, admits “I don’t have my powers,” as a man replies, “I don’t know how to say this other than just say it.” We cannot win this war without you”.

The teaser video also features a sinister voice saying, “You’ve ruined everything. Your suffering is almost over.”
Viewers are later offered a first look at what is reportedly the ruler of Upside Down, a menacing-looking, tentacled creature hovering in the air.
The show has teased that “at this most vulnerable time, a new and terrifying supernatural threat emerges, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, could finally put an end to the horrors of Upside Down.”
A quick series of clips featuring explosions, a dramatic plane ride and monsters build anticipation for the drama to come as the words “This summer every end has a beginning” flash across the screen.
Stranger Things season four has been highly anticipated by fans after being delayed by over a year due to the pandemic.
The streaming giant previously confirmed that the show will end after its fifth season.
Previously, Ross Duffer, one half of the sibling duo who oversee the Netflix show, appeared to have revealed a detail regarding the season’s episode lengths.
As is usual with any season, the Duffer brothers have revealed the episode titles of each episode, with “Dad” marking the return of Matthew Modine’s Dr. Martin Brenner teases.
Speaking to Present Company With Krista Smith about the new season, Duffer said, “I think they’re going to be happy when they see it.” “
The interesting thing about this comment is that season four will run for nine episodes, which is exactly the same number of episodes as season two, and one more than seasons one and three.
It seems Duffer inadvertently confirmed that several episodes of the new season will be feature length.
However, it could be that Duffer is alluding to the new season being split into two parts. Earlier this year, it was announced that the show would return with nine episodes in May, with a final series of episodes set to be released in July. It will be packaged as a fourth season – volume two.
