Prepare to head back into the Upside Down while doing your best to avoid the dreaded Demogorgons.

to stranger things are in high spirits this week after Netflix released a three-minute trailer for the fourth season of the Duffer Brothers hit series.

Featuring dark, brooding scenes of tremendous intensity, judging by the trailer, the new series will be even darker than its predecessor.

The third season ended in July 2019 with a typically dramatic climax, so fans of the series had to wait a long time for the next part.

The new Duffer Brothers season will be split into two volumes, scheduled for release in May and then July. This is followed by a fifth and final series.

Here’s what we learned from the new trailer for season four, which begins with an ominous voice saying, “You’ve ruined everything, your suffering is almost over.”

Spoiler alert. Jim Hopper, played by David Barbour, is actually alive.

The third season ended with him apparently sacrificing himself to save the others during the Battle of Starcourt Mall.

The new trailer shows him being imprisoned in a desolate and remote place believed to be Siberia, surrounded by barbed wire and terrifying half-dogs.

Max (Sadie Sink) appears to have gained new powers or become possessed. In one scene, she reads a letter at the grave of her late brother Billy, who was killed at the end of series three.

In a later clip, we see her levitate into the air while the main protagonists look on.

Only this time the name of the tombstone has changed from Billy to William.

Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) has left Hawkins with sons Will and Charlie and Jane aka Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).

She and Will are seen walking down the corridors of Lenora High School while their classmates give them the cold shoulder.

Let’s not forget that Eleven also lost her powers thanks to a wound received from the Mind Flayer.

A war is coming, and a narrator tells Joyce that her “friends at Hawkins are very much in the eye of the storm.”

Then we get our first look at the series’ terrifying new monster, which has chain-like tentacles and helpfully speaks English too.

A grandfather clock has taken on new meaning as we are shown multiple shots of it while speculating it could be a door to another portal to the Upside Down region.

The fourth season will premiere on Netflix on May 27th, with the second half coming out on July 1st.
