Here are some tips and tricks to get you back on the wagon and on your way to all the health benefits that come with teething.

Author Hilary Sheinbaum, who has reaped many benefits from the abstention – became so knowledgeable on the subject that she decided to write a book on the subject: The Dry Challenge: How to Reduce Alcohol for Dry January, Sober October, and Any Other Alcohol-Free Month.

“I’ve been doing the January Dry every year since 2017, and it’s what I look forward to.

The first year was definitely the most challenging, but by the end of the month I was excited with all the amazing benefits like cleaner skin, better sleep, financial savings, and obviously no feeling hangover,” said Hilary.

If you’ve started, but feel like you’ve slipped up in some way at this point, as Hilary said “Not all is lost!”

“If you’ve committed to Dry January but have had a beer or two or three in the first week or middle of the month – or whenever – that’s totally fine! Just go back to your Dry plan and continue where you left off. ”

Not everyone’s dry month will be the same, the author helpfully explains.

“In some cases, people drink January, which means they plan to drink one night of the month. This could be for an important celebration – like a wedding, birthday or anniversary – or a random Tuesday.

“And after one day, they abstain from alcohol for the other 31 days!”

“The Dry January score isn’t necessary to achieve a perfect month – it’s a reflection of your relationship with alcohol and consider changing your drinking (read: reducing your consumption) over the next few days. weeks, months and even years later,” she explained.

Being kind to yourself, as with any change, is key, she says.

Hilary added: “Also, some people working in the dry January choose to extend into February and beyond – so it can really be an eye-opening and beneficial experience.

Algorithms CAN HELP

If you find yourself in a situation where everyone else is drinking, it’s a good idea to prepare some non-alcoholic drinks so you don’t feel completely weight-loss.

Hilary said one of her picks this month is the Free Spirits, which offers three alcohol-free varieties: tequila, bourbon and gin.

“You can still enjoy your favorite drinks like Margaritas, Old Fashioned’s and Martinis. If you love making creative cocktails but you don’t want to cause a stir, I highly recommend adding them to your bar cart.”

Another brand that the author is relying on is Three Spirits which “creates the perfect schedule for an alcohol-free evening with three great products for NA cocktails: Livener, Social Elixir and Nightcap. Livener is for energizing at the beginning of the night, Social Elixir is for uplifting and connecting, and Nightcap – as the name suggests – helps you relax.”

Hilary further explains: “In the US and UK (and elsewhere), alcohol has become deeply embedded in our culture. We drink at celebrations, at sporting events, at bars to meet friends, when we connect and date, and when we are stressed and grieving.

“Overall, alcohol isn’t something that’s usually easy to quit, so it’s important to treat yourself well during a dry month – because it can be hard.”

“That said, dry/challenging months are not a method of recovery nor a substitute for a recovery program,” the authors further explain.
