A student nurse has opened up about the horrific moment she was headbutted after refusing a man’s advances.
Birmingham City University student Kareena Patel, 19, and her friend, 20, said they were tracked back to their dormitories after a night when the attack took place.
She claimed the two men tried to strike up a conversation with the couple but allegedly became abusive when they said they weren’t interested.
The victim said they were being followed by a nearby petrol station before the altercation took place outside the Altura complex on Bath Row, Five Ways, around 5am on June 3.
One of the unidentified men suddenly fell forward and slapped her face, causing profuse nosebleeds.
Kareena went to the emergency room and was left with severe bruising on her nose and swollen eyes. The alleged attack was captured by surveillance cameras with footage handed over to police. West Midlands Force said no arrests had been made and investigations were ongoing.
Kareena said: “They were two random people off the street when we went home. They stood by their car and shouted. A few minutes later they followed us to our accommodation.
“They kept whistling and yelling at us. We walked on and told them that we have friends and should leave each other alone. They went from complimenting us to saying nasty things like, ‘You girls are ugly anyway.’
“We started yelling back and at that point we returned to our shelter. We tried to use our cards to get in but couldn’t so we banged on the door to get in and asked for help.
“This man was in the lobby making comments about hitting me with his head. I didn’t think he would actually do it until suddenly he did. I was in shock. My ears were ringing. I didn’t know where I was.”
She added: “Security was in the back and couldn’t hear us. We finally managed to get inside and my nose started bleeding all over my face. It literally bled for about 30 minutes.”
The victim described her attacker as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, Asian, in his 20s with broad shoulders. The other man was about the same age and ethnicity, but slightly taller. They were believed to be driving a white Mercedes.
A police spokesman said: “We are supporting a woman after she was attacked on June 3 in Bath Row, Five Ways. The 19-year-old woman was followed by two unidentified men, threatened and then headbutted by one of the men.
“We are in the process of checking the video surveillance. At this point no arrests have been made.”
