Style notes: Brown Thomas runway looks, heritage knitwear from Beo Wellness and a new jewelery collection

It’s always fascinating to watch a room full of dedicated fashion lovers perusing the new international designer collections and noting which pieces are garnering enthusiastic acclaim.

My memory bank is still playing a loop of images from the catwalk show and behind-the-scenes moments at the annual ISPCC/Brown Thomas Lunch and Fashion Show I attended in Dublin earlier this month. In its 20th year, the fashion show luncheon has raised more than €1.3 million for the 24-hour Childline service.

Watching the audience’s reaction to Darren Feeney’s 123 International Designer Looks, it was clear that while we love colour, dress up for the evening and lose ourselves in our moods, we can also be very practical and I got away with it from the show a new look at how much we Irish love our coats.

Prada Ink blue feather puffer

Prada has come up with some incredible looks for AW22, like the chunky houndstooth wool coat with green faux fur popping on the sleeves, almost like mohair grass (€4,250). And there was plenty of neck strain to get a better look at the inky feather-adorned down jacket.

Now the prices for designer looks like this aren’t for the faint of heart, but embellishments like this are key looks in a new season that showcases leather. Imagine an oversized boxy green leather jacket from Prada worn over a sheer skirt.

Fashion Buying Director at Brown Thomas and Arnotts Shelly Corkery confirmed that powerful outerwear, exquisite silhouettes and strong shoulders are the order of the day this season.

Another quirky trend that might catch your eye is what Corkery calls “irrational silhouettes.” So expect unusual shapes, well exemplified by the oversized knotted jackets by JW Anderson at Loewe and also a cape dress with a curved silhouette by Emilia Wickstead. This is a new level one brand in Brown Thomas for the season, along with The Row, Mugler, Nensi Dojaka and Dion Lee.

The 1980s power shoulder is back with a vengeance, and for those of you still trying to find back-to-the-office looks, heavy shoulder skirt suits are in.

The Best of the West

Fair play to Aoibhín Garrihy and Sharon Connellan from Beo Wellness, a true Co Clare business success. From live events to encouraging self-care, they developed a lifestyle line with their Inis collection of knitwear and curated collections sustainably and ethically sourced in the west of Ireland.

The next week will be very busy for the duo. Tomorrow they are launching their new him and her knitwear range on their website and next Friday they are opening a pop up shop on O’Connell Street in Ennis which will be open until the end of the year.

From throws and socks to sweaters and cardigans, each piece has been carefully crafted in Ireland from 100-piece super-soft merino wool. The star performer for me is the Boyfriend V-neck cardigan, which comes in 100pc merino wool with matching hats (€34) and scarves (€59) – all available in ecru, oatmeal, charcoal and black .

There’s also a crew-neck men’s jumper (€115) in the same yarn with a hat (€28) and scarf (€36) and very cute children’s jumpers, the Beo “Minis” (€69).

“These pieces are built to last and built to last,” says Garrihy. “It’s not fast fashion, it’s tradition.”

Friends join forces

Next Tuesday will see the launch of Synergy, a new jewelry collection, a collaboration between stylist Ingrid Hoey and Margaret O’Rourke of MoMuse.

Hoey has done a number of collaborations, including one last year with Zoë Jordan, who produced one of my all-time favorite summer dresses. Hoey followed with an interior design collaboration with CA Design’s Carol-Anne Leyden.

This new project celebrates friendship and began 14 years ago when Hoey worked with O’Rourke styling pieces from her shop in Powerscourt Townhouse Centre.

The Synergy collection consists of nine pieces and prices start at €140 for a single diamond cut out initials charm in 9ct gold, rising to €1,500 for a single diamond signet ring and a three baguette diamond ring , both made of 18kt gold.

I’m an earring fanatic and very picky now that my hair is short and I thought the gold Synergy earrings were very cute. They are available in two sizes and cost €175 and €195 respectively. Along with the diamond signet ring, the 9-karat gold earrings are Hoey’s favorite pieces, and she recommends wearing them together for a classy effect.

They also have a single huggie with cut out initial pendant in 9kt gold with a single diamond for €210. Style notes: Brown Thomas runway looks, heritage knitwear from Beo Wellness and a new jewelery collection
