Towards the end of 2021, the famous video game creator Goichi “Suda51” Suda announced that his development studio has joined the Chinese video game group NetEase.
With No more heroes 3 The Suda 51 team is now complete and focused on creating new and original IP projects over the next decade. Now, in a recent interview uploaded to NetEase Games’ YouTube channel (via Niche Gamer), Suda discussed a little more what’s ahead – and teased a reveal, possibly before the end of 2022:
“So the games that we’re making in this studio… I mean the really, really cool and brand new games, we’re going to keep making them, and I think everyone’s going to be really impressed. I’m wondering when I can announce that… Maybe towards the end of the year… I’m not sure… Maybe next year, we’ll see how it goes. Anyway, I want to hurry up and show everyone what we’re doing.”
Grasshopper has launched a new studio nicknamed “Yabukiri Studio” (Yabukiri is the “toughest of the grasshoppers”) thanks to its partnership with NetEase. Also referred to as “Grasshopper Version 5.1” by Suda himself.
Aside from revealing a future project, Suda hopes to get younger Grasshopper staff to work on their own projects with their own “new playstyle” and then move on to second and third titles.
“Now I’m working on back-to-back projects and would like to start a second project when the time comes… I want to make a project that focuses on the younger Grasshopper staff and they have games to create in their own new playstyle. First I want to start with that… And then see if we can make it to a second and third title. I really want to get it right and make it work.”
