Sundance Film Festival organizers have released initial details on the combined event for 2023, which will feature a mix of live and online screenings.
The organization said the New Year’s event was designed “with the priority of bringing the Sundance community together in cinemas”.
It comes after the world-famous film festival was forced to go online in 2021 and again at the last minute earlier this year.
The festival, which takes place in Park City, Utah, will run from January 19 to 29, 2023.
Live screenings will begin January 19 and run until the festival ends, with a digital showcase available from January 24.
The digital service offers a selection of on-demand feature films, curated from the 2023 Festival, including all competing titles as well as work on other parts of the feature film programme, along with original authors. series and short films.
All attendees will be required to wear masks in the carnival space and are encouraged to experiment before and during the event.
“We are thrilled to bring the Sundance community to the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, a celebration of independent filmmaking,” said Joana Vicente, executive director of the Sundance Institute.
“After two years apart, our priority is to reunite in person, while still sharing bold new films with audiences across the country through online access.
“We designed this year’s Festival based on our lessons from previous years – embracing meaningful traditions of the past, while working towards audience accessibility and broadening the platform. platform that we provide to our storytellers.”
