Sunday Independent wins awards in business journalism

Two Sunday Independent journalists were among Ireland’s leading business journalists to be recognized at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business Journalist Awards in Dublin yesterday.
It awards excellence in Irish business journalism across the media spectrum in seven categories.
Sunday independent business report Sean Pollock was among the winners of the seven categories, in which each winner was awarded 1,000 euros. He was recognized in the Business Feature of the Year category for his article Irish Tech Firms answering a Global Call of Duty, to which he responded on Twitter: “Really didn’t see that coming! I am happy about this award.”

Fearghal O’Connor, Assistant Business Editor at the Sunday independent, won the Business Interview of the Year Award for his interview with Irish businessman Richard O’Halloran, who spoke about his ordeal in prison in China in the play I Feelt Abandoned. He tweeted: “This is a real honor considering the excellent nominations. I am grateful that I, along with others, have been able to contribute in a very small way to highlighting a terrible injustice that can only be righted through the courage and tenacity of Richard, his family and a small group of people who refused to give him up became.”
