That’s what British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab told the BBC last Thursday, who, like Ron Burgundy, would say anything written down for him Boris Johnson spoke honestly about Partygate “to the best of my knowledge and belief”. By which he meant that Boris was lying.
Like racists everywhere, the right-wing Tories don’t care what they say because other people are below them. As the Prime Minister’s old caretaker at Eton put it in a letter to Johnson Snr: “Boris honestly believes it is impolite of us not to see him as an exception, as someone who should be free from the web of obligations that binds everyone else.”
Superiority is the instinct that you are superior to others in society and entitled to treat them as inferior. It is the guiding force of supremacists around the world, from Donald Trump to Vladimir Putin, from Boris to Jair Bolsonaro.
Being a racist inevitably means lying publicly. This is because, by definition, your decisions will not be based on democratic ideals or the common good.
A reliable way to spot a racist is how they respond to the LGBTQ community. The Tories belittle and ridicule them as it plays well with their base. Last Tuesday at a Tory dinner at London’s Park Plaza Hotel, Boris began his speech with a joke about trans people that drew a lot of laughs.
On Friday, after promising to ban LGBTQ conversion therapy, he turned around and left trans people out in the face of a submission from NHS England warning that trans conversion therapy was “unethical and potentially harmful”.
In many red states, US Republicans have passed (or are passing) laws that discriminate against LGBTQ people. Last week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the Don’t Say Gay law into law, blocking classroom discussion of non-heterosexual orientation and gender identity.
Trump joked about gays at a rally last week, telling an onlooker, “You don’t look gay,” prompting a huge cheer.
Putin’s Russia is now perhaps the most hostile place on earth for LGBTQ people.
In Northern Ireland, the union parties refused to vote for same-sex marriage, so Westminster eventually brought it in. DUP MP Sammy Wilson has called gay people “fags”.
Ian Paisley Jr narrates hot press: “I’m pretty disgusted with gay and lesbianism.” Edwin Poots, DUP leader for short, banned the donation of “gay blood” on the grounds that it was “abhorrent”. Jim Wells, former DUP health secretary, said last year he was no longer watching Be sure to come dance after a gay couple danced on the show.
The key thing about the North, which allows us to understand everything else, is that if Sinn Féin becomes the largest party in the upcoming elections, neither union party will commit to taking the position of deputy first minister.
We’ve only ever had a sham democracy. It hobbled along because Catholics (from Seamus Mallon to Michelle O’Neill) took the losing role according to their party’s vote count. But now we face the first real test of democracy, as we see unions balking at the idea of serving under a Taig should Sinn Féin win next month’s elections.
Last Thursday night, BBC’s Mark Carruthers pressed Doug Beattie on whether he would serve as deputy first minister if voters chose a Sinn Féin first minister. He repeatedly refused to say yes. I was very disappointed as Doug was showing signs of being a Democrat.
The unionists are racists who only respect the vote if they win. This is a fundamental rejection of democracy and shows only contempt for the rest of us. Make no mistake, the fabricated pre-election hysteria stems from union fears that they will no longer be at the helm.
After all, Jeffrey Donaldson told the BBC in March 2020 that the protocol offers NI “exploitation opportunities” and customs controls “do not mean you are changing the constitutional status of any part of the UK”.
He continued: “We are already seeing business leaders and political parties coming together to see how we harness the power of the protocol,” praising the fact that the North has “full access to the UK market and full access to the EU market.” ” have.
But now, with their supremacy under threat, protocol has suddenly become “an existential threat to the union,” and Donaldson drives through Loyalist villages in the back of a trailer and says, “Never, never, never.”
Democracy was good when they won. But if they lose, Ulster says no, the Good Friday Agreement is “dead” and more moderate unionists (like Beattie, who has refused to join the protocol protests) are traitors. Windows are smashed, hoax bombs planted and Southern politicians are not welcome.
This supremacy is the key to understanding the North. In her weekly column for the Daily express, Arlene Foster has branded St. Patrick’s Day too “green” at the White House and poked fun at US President Joe Biden. Arlene will probably explain next week why July 12th is too orange, July 4th is too American and Bastille Day is too French.
On Thursday, in an interview with GB News (where Ms Foster also plies her new trade), Ian Paisley Jr said the Tory party is “becoming an English nationalist party” that doesn’t care about Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
If Junior meets this standard of analysis, the Wizard of Oz will present him with a diploma. Ian’s interview came a day after GB News presenters poked fun at the released Iranian-British hostage Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe for not thanking the British government (‘She has been radicalised’, ‘She will put the prayer rug in the garage” etc.).
Domination is a toxic and inhuman thing. It’s a political philosophy that doesn’t work properly in a cooperative grouping like the European Union.
There are 48 European states and dependencies. Of these, 45 are either full members of the EU, members of the European Free Trade Association or are applying to join the EU. Only three are not: Russia, Belarus and now Great Britain.
