Piers Morgan storms GMB in the Alex Beresford series

It has been a year on Wednesday since Piers Morgan sensationally left Good Morning Britain after a row over Meghan, Duchess of Sussex – and former co-star Susanna Reid has reflected on their time together on the show.

The 51-year-old TV presenter co-hosted Good Morning Britain on weekday mornings Monday to Wednesday between 2015 and 2021 alongside Piers, 56.

But their working relationship ended with Piers jumping off the set of the morning news show and calling it quits later in the day after falling out with weatherman Alex Beresford over 40-year-old Meghan’s infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Reflecting on her time with Piers, Susanna admits her time on the show was “really difficult” as they were faced with an onslaught of big issues – from women’s equality and transgender debates to Brexit, Covid and the Turmp era.

Susanna explained to Fabulous magazine: “We keep in touch and he’s a really important person in my life. We had such a great time and it was an incredible dynamic.

“He really put his stamp on the program and it was very powerful.

“I remember the arguments about the role of women and feminism, and those arguments felt like the big issue at the time, and then of course we went on to Brexit and Trump.

“We’ve been through some really difficult times together as a team and those were very strong moments.

“And when it came to the lockdown, the pandemic and government accountability, he was just unrivaled in getting their feet in the fire, but then it ended.”

She added, “All presenting gigs come to an end, right? As they will for all of us. He’s a friend of mine and that’s not going to change.”

Piers and ITV decided to end their working relationship on Good Morning Britain last year after the presenter stormed off the show’s set after arguing he didn’t believe everything Meghan had told Oprah, 68 .

During her interview, Meghan shared heartbreaking details about her personal life, saying she considered suicide as she struggled to adjust to life in the royal spotlight.

This prompted husband Prince Harry, 37, to agree to move out of the UK with his wife and young son Archie, as he feared the story would change following the death of his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997 aged 36 , repeated while being chased by paparazzi.

Pier’s views on Meghan’s interview sparked 50,000 complaints from viewers at Ofcom – while it has been reported that the Duchess of Sussex has herself complained to ITV following his outbursts.

However, Piers will be back on screens this year as he’s something of a star singing for soon-to-be-launched new television network TalkTV, owned by media tycoon Rupert Murdoch.
