Suspended Tory MP David Warburton faces a new inquiry from Parliament’s defamation watchdog.

The Somerset and Frome MP has already been investigated by the Harassment Commission after two women complained about inappropriate behaviour.

And it comes after a picture surfaced showing the Somerset MP and Frome sitting next to an upturned baking sheet on which lie four lines of powder – allegedly cocaine.

Today the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards said they had opened an inquiry into possible violations of the Commons’ lobbying rules and interest register.

The watchdog’s website states the investigation relates to “paid advocacy”, “declaration of interest” and “registration of an interest under Category 3 of the Guide to the Rules”. [Gifts, benefits and hospitality from UK sources]”.

Separately, it emerged in April that Mr Warburton had faced allegations that he had also climbed naked into a woman’s bed and fondled her breasts – after snorting cocaine.

Party bosses stripped the whip from married David Warburton while he is being investigated by Parliament’s Harassment Inspectorate.

When the allegations surfaced in April, former music teacher Mr Warburton, who is married with two young children, denied any wrongdoing, telling the Telegraph: “I have enormous defenses but unfortunately the way things work means that this does not happen first get out.

“I haven’t heard from the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme at all.

“I’m sorry, I can’t comment further.”

A spokesman for the Whips Office said in April: “David Warburton’s Conservative Party whip has been removed while the investigation continues.”

Mr Warburton still sits as an independent MP in the House of Commons, where he has called for international action to “fight drug trafficking”.
