Sussex MPs get new government jobs as part of the cabinet reshuffle

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden who served as Minister of State for Industry and Investment Security, is now Minister of State in the new Department for Business and Trade.

She will be accompanied by Lewes MP Maria Caulfield, who has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary of State at the Department for Business and Trade.

Ms Caulfield will retain her mandate as Parliamentary Secretary of State at the Department for Health and Social Care.

University of Sussex graduate Kemi Badenoch, representing Saffron Walden constituency in Essex, became Secretary of State for the new department.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s restructuring of Whitehall saw the creation of four new government departments aimed at stimulating economic growth and addressing the energy crisis, including a new Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Mr Sunak also replaced sacked Tory Party leader Nadhim Zahawi with Greg Hands, who had served as Trade Secretary.

“I think we’ve seen, especially in the last year, the impact on people’s bills back home when energy policies don’t work properly when we depend on imported energy from hostile countries,” Prime Minister Sunak said.

“That’s why the creation of a new division specifically focused on energy security and Net Zero is so important.”
