Sussex Police confirm a woman has been pronounced dead on Saltdean beach

Sussex Police have confirmed the woman was pronounced dead at the scene after they visited Saltdean beach this afternoon.

A spokesman for the force said: “Sussex Police responded to concerns for the well-being of a woman on Saltdean beach just after 1.20pm on Tuesday.

“Emergency services were present and one woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“The investigation is ongoing to identify her and determine the full circumstances of the situation.

“There is no further information available at this time.”

A witness reported seeing several police cars and a large group of officers at the scene. A blue police tent could be seen near the waterline.

The witness said: ‘We are directly opposite Saltdean Lido and there is a blue tent set up on one of the groynes. There are a lot of cops keeping people away.”
