Two police officers were found to have violated the force’s code of conduct.
One officer, PC Joseph Bryant, was found not to have told investigators about a side hustle, while another officer, identified only as PC X, showed up for work after taking cocaine.
Both men would have been fired but left the force before a disciplinary hearing. PC Bryant resigned in February, while PC X retired from police service in August.
Sussex Police Officer Jo Shiner said: “I expect our officers to act with the utmost integrity and in accordance with the Force’s values, the Code of Ethics and standards of professional conduct.
“I am very proud of the staff, officers and volunteers who work for Sussex Police. The unacceptable behavior heard will not be tolerated. This bad behavior should not overshadow the hard work of others.”
PC Bryant broke police standards after telling investigators he had not been paid to help a friend with his business. Data from his phone later suggested he had been paid and was dishonest to investigators.
Meanwhile, PC X was found to have taken cocaine after being asked to provide a urine sample. Testing of the sample revealed traces of the Class A drug.
