Sussex Police say no arrests have been made following the World Cup defeat in England

No football fans have been arrested following England’s defeat in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, Sussex Police have confirmed.

England fans were heartbroken after the Three Lions were eliminated from the competition by holders France on Saturday after there were high hopes for this year’s squad to win the tournament.

However, no arrests were directly linked to yesterday’s 2-1 defeat, despite previous football-related incidents across the country following defeats by England.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “There were no football-related incidents or arrests across the county last night.”

Sussex Police launched a campaign against domestic violence just before and during the World Cup in Qatar.

Around 49 people were arrested by Sussex Police for domestic violence in the week leading up to this year’s competition.

According to the charity Women’s Aid, cases of domestic violence are often exacerbated at international football tournaments such as the World Cup or the European Championship.
