Sussex Police warn of increasing use of nitrous oxide

Police have issued a warning amid the rise in the use of nitrous oxide.

Brighton and Hove Police are urging the public to ‘just say no’ to nitrous oxide.

Breathing nitrous oxide, also known as NOS or laughing gas, can cause dizziness and loss of balance, which can lead to falls, hallucinations, and headaches.

Lung and throat damage and vitamin B12 deficiencies are also common among chronic users, often leading to memory problems and negative mood.

“If all of this doesn’t scare you off, you could also become deprived of oxygen in the brain, which can cause you to become unconscious and possibly die,” a police spokesman said. “Why would you take that risk?

“Stay safe if you’re going out this weekend, think twice and don’t be fooled into making a decision that could at best ruin your night but at worst could ruin your life.”

Last month, angry residents called for action after tons of rubbish, including empty nitrous oxide canisters, were dumped into the sea following the heatwave.

Angry local residents collected “mountains” of rubbish including paraphernalia of the illegal party drug, empty beer bottles, straws and grills on Brighton beach. Sussex Police warn of increasing use of nitrous oxide
