A rail company is urging people to travel only if necessary due to the strike planned today.
More than 40,000 RMT members are on strike today and tomorrow as well as on Friday and Saturday this week.
In Sussex services will only operate between Hove, Brighton and as far as London.
A Southern Rail spokeswoman said: “Our advice these days is to only travel if absolutely necessary.
“As the whole country is affected by industrial action, we cannot offer alternatives such as taxis, additional replacement buses and ticket acceptance at other local train and bus companies on any strike day.
“Construction work can take place on strike days. Travel planners always contain this information and are correct at the latest the day before the trip.”
The trains start later and the last train leaves around 17:30 today.
