Suzuki claims it saves €11 a month on fuel with its new hybrid Vitara

IT WAS nice to connect with Suzuki during the week and drive three of their new (or newer) cars.

I will drive them longer in time and will report in more detail.

They have a brand new car called the Srace, which is a full brother (sister?) to the Toyota Corolla Hybrid Estate – the two companies work quite well together.

A large estate is something they have never owned before. It’s big and spacious, as you’d expect, and prices start at €30,995.

The hybrid system includes a 1.8-liter petrol engine and an electric motor (4.4 liters/100 km, 103 g/km).

Generally no discounts are sold here, but they claim the market has now grown to 10 percent of all sales, so the timing is good. Competitors are of course the Corolla, the Skoda Octavia and the Ford Focus.

There’s 596 liters of luggage – 1,232 with the rear seats folded flat.

There is now also a Vitara full hybrid. This is a really important car for Suzuki. It has a 1.5 liter petrol engine and an electric motor. It looks sharper, although some of the plastic on the inside remains dated.

However, their calculation is more positive – I have to believe them – that you can save 11 euros a month on fuel with this hybrid. Music to the ears of battered drivers.

Vitara prices start at €26,535; Full hybrid from €28,995.

The new S-Cross (pictured) was the drive of choice for me. It’s a slightly smaller competitor for the likes of the Nissan Qashqai.

It looks good and made an impression on a short stay in Wicklow. It has a 1.4-litre petrol engine (129 hp system) and starts at €29,365 for the manual and the automatic costs €2,030 more. Suzuki now have a much improved line-up. Suzuki claims it saves €11 a month on fuel with its new hybrid Vitara
