Swimming coach arrested on suspicion that recording devices were hidden in children’s changing rooms

Gardaí have arrested and questioned a swimming coach following suspicions that recording devices may have been hidden in swimming pool changing rooms where children are changing.

The investigation into possible child sexual exploitation was launched after several people raised the issue and Swim Ireland was alerted.

She then reported the matter to Gardaí and on Tuesday a man in his 30s was arrested and questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Sex Offenses) Act.

He was later released and a file is being prepared for the chief prosecutor, who will decide whether to charge the man.

A number of children and their parents are understood to have been questioned by Gardaí and evidence collected before the man was arrested.

The alleged criminal offenses can be punished with a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
