Taco Bell is bringing Mexican pizza back…again

Taco Bell announced Monday that it will be bringing back its Mexican pizza on September 15.

The move comes after Taco Bell discontinued the item for three months due to supply issues. The Southern California-based company said it “worked quickly to restock the beloved menu item.”

Mexican Pizza caused a stir in May when it returned after two years due to problems related to the pandemic. Taco Bell cited higher-than-expected demand to remove the item from the menu after about two weeks.

Celebrities like Doja Cat and Dolly Parton helped spur the return of Mexican pizza.

“Taco Bell has worked diligently to resolve depleted ingredients and supply chain challenges that initially resulted in prolonged gaps in the product’s availability,” Taco Bell said in a press release.

Mexican Pizza was launched in 1985 under the name Pizzazz Pizza. It consists of crunchy tortillas, Mexican sauce, cheese, chopped tomatoes, and either beans or ground beef.

“While we’re currently sold out, for now we’re working diligently with our restaurants and suppliers to get more back into the hands and tummies of our biggest fans by this fall,” Taco Bell said at the time, taking Mexican Pizza by the menu.

Taco Bell said that pulling Mexican pizza isn’t a stunt and should return as a permanent menu item. “While [limited time offerings] are at the core of Taco Bell’s ability to create menu innovations, that wasn’t the plan for Mexican pizza,” the company added in the press release.

Mexican pizza costs around $4.50. Taco Bell offers about seven tacos, eleven burritos, three quesadillas, two nachos, and eight specialty items ranging from about $1.00 to about $5.79.

Taco Bell is a subsidiary of the Kentucky-based Yum! Brands, Inc. Yum Brands also owns KFC and Pizza Hut, among other notable chains. Taco Bell is bringing Mexican pizza back…again
