Taron Egerton has assured fans he is “perfectly fine” after fainting on the first night of his new West End play.
he Rocketman star, 32, stars alongside Jonathan Bailey in a revival of Mike Bartlett’s 2009 play Cock at London’s Ambassadors Theatre.
During the first premiere on Saturday night, he fainted onstage and was treated by a doctor in the audience.
His understudy, Joel Harper-Jackson, stepped in and the cast was able to complete the play.

Egerton released a statement via Instagram promising to return to the show Monday night.
He said: “As some of you may have heard, I passed out last night during the first performance of Cock.
“I’m perfectly fine. Slightly sore neck and bruised ego but I’m fine.
“I’ve decided to put a positive spin on this and I’d appreciate it if someone who was at the theater last night would just say I gave such an engaging, electrifying performance that my body couldn’t handle it could, and would be checked out.
“Even so, apparently you’re supposed to do the whole show and not just three quarters of it. So I’ll be back with a vengeance tomorrow night.”

He also hailed Harper-Jackson as “an amazing actor and a lovely person,” adding, “Thank you, Joel.”
Harper-Jackson tweeted on Sunday afternoon that it was “an absolute privilege” to take Egerton’s place on stage.
He added: “Taron is a true gentleman, has been so supportive and most importantly he is fine and will be back on Monday.
“The @cocktheplayldn team has been so supportive and I am extremely lucky to have experienced this moment. I’ll never forget it.”
A statement from the production read: “During the first premiere of Mike Bartlett’s play Cock last night at the Ambassadors Theatre, Taron Egerton passed out towards the end of the performance.
“A doctor who was in the audience attended to Taron immediately after the incident, and while he was fine, it was decided that Taron’s understudy, Joel Harper-Jackson, would remain in the role to complete the performance.”
