TAXI drivers are shocked by the death of a man who was run over in the city centre.
The taxi involved in the incident was Hackney Carriage, authorized by Brighton and Hove City Council.
Drivers at the East Street cab rank were shocked and saddened by the tragedy and felt for both the man’s family and their fellow cab driver.
Assistance was offered to those affected by the collision.
A spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council, which licenses taxis in the city, said: “We were deeply saddened to hear in the early hours of Saturday morning (8 October) of the tragic incident on North Street in which one our city’s taxi driver was involved.
“Our hearts go first and foremost to the family and friends of the fatally injured.
“It was also a huge shock to our taxi community and in particular to the driver involved in the incident.
“We are offering support to all affected drivers.
“Because of the ongoing police investigation, we cannot comment further.”
