Taylor Hawkins death: Ringo Starr leads tribute to ‘incredible’ Foo Fighters drummer

Ozzy Osbourne and Ringo Starr have paid tribute to ‘amazing talent’ Taylor Hawkins, who has died aged 50.

The death of the Foo Fighters drummer was announced on Friday by the band, who are currently touring South America.

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” read a statement shared on Twitter.

“His musical spirit and infectious laugh will live on in all of us forever.”

Online tributes quickly poured in for Hawkins, with Osbourne praising Taylor Hawkins as a “great person and an amazing musician”.

“My heart, love and condolences go out to his wife, children, family, band and fans,” he wrote.

“See you on the other side – Ozzy.”

Former Beatles drummer Starr also expressed his condolences and wished “peace and love” for those close to Hawkins.

“God bless Taylor,” he wrote.

Members of rock band Nickelback said they were “completely in disbelief” at the news.

“Our deepest condolences go out to his family, bandmates, team, friends and everyone who has ever been touched by the music he created with @foofighters @Alanis and so many others,” the band tweeted.

“It’s so incredibly sad.”

Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello praised Hawkins’ “unstoppable rock power” in his own online tribute.

“God bless you Taylor Hawkins,” he said, sharing a picture of them together. “I loved your spirit and your unstoppable rock power. Rest in peace my friend.”

Oscar-nominated producer Finneas O’Connell said “the world was lucky” to have experienced Hawkins’ “gift” before he died.

“It’s so heartbreaking to hear of the passing of Taylor Hawkins, what an amazing talent that didn’t need to be so kind and generous and cool but was all of those anyway,” he said. “The world was so fortunate to have his gifts for the time it had, rest in peace.”

Kiss member Gene Simmons said he was “shocked and saddened” by the news of Hawkins’ death.

Billy Idol said the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was ‘so tragic’ Idol shared a picture of the musician on Twitter and wrote: “So tragic. Rest in peace Taylor.”

“Taylor Hawkins 1972-2022,” The Smashing Pumpkins tweeted. “Our deepest sympathy goes out to Taylor’s family, his fans and of course his band.”
