Taylor Swift receives an honorary doctorate from New York University

Taylor Swift is presented with an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree at a graduation ceremony for New York University (NYU) students.

wift, 32, will accept the award May 18 during an event at Yankee Stadium in New York City alongside other graduates and honorees.

The 11-time Grammy winner will address graduates and guests at the morning ceremony on behalf of all NYU Class of 2022 graduates.

One of the most successful female artists of all time, Swift is the only woman to have won the Grammy Award for Best Album three times.

The official title Swift will receive at the ceremony is Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa.

NYU was previously linked with Swift when the university ran a course on the Pennsylvania-born singer-songwriter, though she didn’t have a direct role in the class.

The disability rights activist Judith Heumann is also honored and receives a Doctor of Humanity.

Heumann, 74, previously starred in Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2021 Oscars.

She is the author of Being Heumann: An Repentant Memoir Of A Disability Rights Activist and presents the podcast The Heumann Perspective, which shines a spotlight on members of the disability community.

NYU President Andrew Hamilton said, “I can’t stress enough how excited I am to be able to meet in person with alumni, parents, faculty and honorees at the beginning of NYU.

“As of 2019, we have been bereft of the festive, communal joy of beginning, and the lack of it is palpable.”
