The name of a teacher who had submitted false certificates of his qualifications to the Education Council had his name removed from the teachers’ register by order of the Supreme Court.
The Teaching Council’s Disciplinary Committee found last month that the language teacher was guilty of professional misconduct of the “most serious kind”.
It found on “proven” allegations that he had engaged in shameful and dishonorable conduct that brought the teaching profession into disrepute.
After hearing evidence at a teaching aptitude examination, it also said the teacher’s actions violated the Code of Conduct for Teachers.
The President of the High Court issued an order today, at the request of the Teaching Council, upholding the decision to remove the teacher’s name from the register of teachers.
Mr Judge David Barniville said there was no valid reason not to uphold the sanction, which also stipulates that the teacher does not have the right to re-apply to return to the register for three years.
The judge found that the teacher, whose name cannot be released by order of the court, admitted the facts very early on.
The Teaching Council Disciplinary Committee found that the teacher had submitted fraudulently prepared documentation purportedly from the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) in England and the UK Department for Education in order to register as a teacher in Ireland in 2020.
The fake credentials indicated that he had completed an induction program in the UK
The inquest also found him guilty of falsely filling in a form allegedly from his former headmaster at a school in England and using a forged school stamp.
The teacher told the hearing he accepted that his behavior constituted professional misconduct “of a higher order” and apologized for his behavior.
However, he emphasized that he never posed a danger to the public, including students or fellow teachers.
He said he was very ashamed of what he had done and suffered from his poor judgment.
