Apple announced the update in June and has already made an early beta version of it available to the public.

In a recent video, a TikTok user highlighted some of the most useful tools that will soon be available on an iPhone near you.

Customizable lock screen

Apple is changing the iPhone lock screen with the launch of iOS 16.

The big change reworks the front of your iPhone in the right way.

First of all, you now get access to lock screen widgets.

These Apple Watch-style “complications” let you quickly view information.

This includes upcoming calendar events, the weather, battery levels, alarms, time zones, your activity ring progress, and more, according to Apple.

You can have a “layered effect” on the lock screen that can put the subject of a photo ahead of time to create a cool depth effect.

And, for the first time, you can even change the look of the date and time with different style and color options.

There are preset options that you can customize, or you can create your own custom lock screen.

You can also take advantage of Live Activity, a new feature that tracks events in real time.

It can be a workout, sports scores, your cab ride, or a food delivery order—all from the lock screen.

Finally there’s a new design where notifications roll up from the bottom of the display, giving you the best possible view of the lock screen.

Unfortunately, the new iOS probably won’t arrive on your iPhone until September, launching alongside the iPhone 14.

But it is possible to join the iOS 16 beta and access all the new features before anyone else.

The iOS 16 public beta went live yesterday, letting Apple fans test new features.

Copy and share subjects from a photo

With the iPhone’s latest software update, you can also isolate, copy, and share subjects for a photo.

It’s useful when you want to remove the background from an image and share just the person, pet, or whatever the camera is showing.

The feature, called Visual Look Up, is based on advanced machine learning.

To use it, all you have to do is open an image in Photos with a clearly defined subject in it, then tap and hold on the subject.

A white glow effect appears around its outline.

From there, you can tap Copy to copy it to the clipboard, or tap Share to send it via an app of your choice.

Send back an iMessage

Editing texts after sending is a rare feature – even WhatsApp doesn’t have it yet.

but Whatsapp has been offering no-send – retrieving an SMS from a recipient’s phone for a while.

Apple is finally catching up with the new iOS 16 update for its iMessage SMS system.

You can undo an iMessage on iOS 16 up to 15 minutes after it was sent by pressing and holding the text.

But don’t think you can do this quietly.

Just like WhatsApp, if a text has “not been sent,” a note will appear for both the sender and the recipient.

This prevents any confusion once text has disappeared.

Also important is that both the sender and recipient must be on iOS 16 for the feature to work.

So even if you have iOS 16, you can’t undo or edit a text for someone who hasn’t upgraded yet.

You’ll get a warning that some people won’t see your changes in this case.
