Tech layoffs: Intercom lays off 13 employees, 39 of them in Ireland

Intercom plans to rent out 39 people in Ireland.
It’s the company’s second round of layoffs this year, with another 5% downsizing earlier this year.
Overall, the company says it plans to lay off 13 percent of its global workforce, totaling 124 employees, in the latest round of downsizing.
“The reality is that we have increased our headcount too quickly compared to the growth in sales and the development of the market,” said a spokesman.
“This is difficult news and we are deeply sorry to say goodbye to so many talented team members. We have notified relevant government officials and will enter the 30-day consultation period for positions at risk of layoffs shortly this month. We offer transition and benefit packages with the goal of making the transition as supportive as possible for affected teammates. These changes place the company in a strong and healthy position to execute our new, more focused strategy and big plans for the next year and beyond.”
The company says it will move 14 employees from the US to Dublin, after which the overall reduction here will be 5 percent once the downsizing round is complete.
Intercom focuses most of its engineering in Dublin, while its sales and marketing activities are focused in California, where newly-returned CEO Eoghan McCabe resides.
