Tekken 8 seemingly revealed during the Battle Tournament

A TEKKEN teaser trailer was unveiled during the grand finals of this year’s EVO 2022 Fighting Championships.

Bandai Namco’s teaser featured the famous cutscene from the end of the original Tekken game, in which Kazuya Mishima throws series antagonist Heihachi Mishima off a cliff.

Tekken 7 was the last major release of the series.

Even using the original Playstation’s chunky polygonal graphics, we can clearly see how Kazuya then turns to the camera and smiles.

This shot then switches to a new model of Kazuya showing the same smile but this time with modern graphics.

The words “Get Ready” are then displayed on the screen and read aloud in an announcer’s voice.

Clips and images from the teaser were tweeted by prominent members of the gaming industry, including Geoff Keighley, founder of The Game Awards, and Katsuhiro Harada, game director of the series.

Although he shared the clip on social media, Harada has said he will not be answering questions about it teasers.

This would be the first mainline Tekken game to come out since Tekken 7 released in 2015.

Despite the teaser, it’s unclear what the new game will be.

The teaser came at the end of a video detailing all of the balancing changes and updates that are coming to Tekken 7 soon.

While Tekken 7 is still getting changes, it seems unlikely that a sequel like Tekken 8 will be announced.

However, as this is just a teaser, the new game is likely in the early stages of development and could hint at a 2023 or even 2024 release.

If the release date is still a long way off, the new game could be the long-awaited sequel.

There is another theory that fans think is possible.

Since the teaser uses footage from Tekken’s original 1994 release, the series could return to its roots.

The new game could be a remake of the original game or a complete reboot of the series.

Based on the tweets from Geoff Keighley and Harada, fans believe more could be announced during this year’s Game Awards.

We’ll have to wait a while before we know exactly what the teaser means for Tekken.
