An annual 5K memorial run is established in honor of renowned sports journalist Con Houlihan.
n the 10th anniversary of the journalist’s death, friends and old colleagues gathered at The Lower Deck pub in Dublin’s Portobello over the weekend to share memories of Houlihan.
Houlihan, who worked for the Press Group, lived nearby for a number of years.
The event, which included music and storytelling, served as the kick-off night for the Remembrance Run 5K, which will take place on Sunday November 13th.
Competitors can either walk or run during the event organized by Athletics Ireland.
Athletics Ireland Ambassador Frank Greally is the founder of the Remembrance Run 5K. He said, “I think we all have a primal need to be reminded – even in small ways.”
This year’s event will take place in Phoenix Park. Mr Greally described the event as “unique” as participants will run to the sound of the music.
In addition, runners can celebrate the lives of loved ones who have died by writing messages for a special memorial wall.
“I think it’s a fitting tribute to Con Houlihan – one of our great Irish writers,” he said.
