Video has captured the extraordinary moment when a lion bit off a zoo worker’s finger after trying to pet him through the cage

This is the moment stunned visitors witnessed a lion biting off a zoo employee’s finger.
The horrific incident took place at the Jamaica Zoo in St. Elizabeth on Friday when the man stuck his hand through the lion’s cage and appeared to be trying to pet it.
According to a visitor who asked not to be named, the lion bit off the entire upper part of his finger from the first joint.
She told that Jamaica Observerabout 15 people were watching at the time.
The woman explained that a tour of the zoo had come to an end and the worker was trying to impress the crowd.
“When it happened, I thought it was a joke,” she said. “I didn’t think it was serious. I didn’t realize how serious it was because it’s their job to make a show,” she said.
“Of course, when he fell to the ground, everyone knew it was serious. Everyone panicked,” she added.
The worker yells expletives as he struggles to free his finger from the lion’s mouth before finally breaking free and falling to the ground.
The visitor said she and others were left stunned, but the incident.
“All of the skin and about the first knuckle of his finger was gone,” she said.
“I ran away from the whole thing because I don’t like seeing blood and it was too graphic for me,” she added.
The zoo employee reportedly got up and walked to a vehicle before exiting the zoo.

“His facial expression when he walks is like the pain never came,” said the visitor.
The attraction has a variety of animals including llamas, zebras, monkeys, crocodiles and toucans.
The Jamaica Observer contacted the Jamaica Zoo, who said they were unaware of the incident.
A senior police source also appeared unaware of the attack.
The executive director of the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Pamela Lawson, told the newspaper she would be investigating the incident.
“We will go there and I will communicate with the National Environment and Planning Agency, which oversees the Jamaica Zoo,” she said.
Earlier this year, a tiger attacked a zoo worker who was not allowed to be near the big cats when he suddenly entered an enclosure.
The 50-year-old was hospitalized after being abused at Wooten’s Airboats in the Everglades, United States, in March.
He suffered serious injuries in the attack in Florida, but miraculously survived.
The employee, who was not allowed into the cage containing the tiger, reportedly walked in when the fearsome animal was due to be fed, local authorities said.
